We are all born with certain biological assumptions attached to us.

Our gender, our race, even the people we are born to, define how we are viewed and how we are raised. You spend your whole life being told how you should act, and what you should believe in. You are told: "you are a boy, so act like it", or you are told "You're a Thompson, act like one". We are brought up being told that we should be what we were born to be.

This is true of just about anyone. If you are male or female, you should act like your gender. If you  are being raised in a certain religion, a certain family, a certain way, there is the expectation that you should be just like everyone else.

We are born under the biological assumptions of those around us. As far as anyone can tell when looking at a newborn baby, they are a straight, male or female who will grow up to be just like their family. They will get married to the opposite gender, they will produce off spring and they will pass on the values that will be taught to them all of their lives.

In a "perfect" world, we would be more like the animals in this way. However, we are not animals, we are people; people who form their own thoughts and beliefs, about themselves and about others. This is what makes us different from the animals. It is true that what we have been taught will shape us as we grow, but it is that individuality that sets us apart from others, that forms bonds and beliefs and also breaks them on a regular basis.

We may have been born under certain assumptions but that does not make them right. Some people feel like they have been born in the wrong body and that is their right to believe so. Some people may feel that they are not attracted to the other sex and that is also their right; just as it is anyone's right to not follow the same belief systems as those who are teaching them to us. We do not have to be the sum of our biological parts, both in physical body and in relational ties. Just because you were born into a family does not mean you are like that family. Just because you were born a Susan, doesn't mean you won't prefer to be called Steve.

We are all humans and we get to choose how we live and how we love. Just because Jennifer loves Erica instead of Eric, it doesn't make her any less of a person. We do not force our children to wear our clothes; as such we should not force our children to conform to our standards of biological assumptions. If Rachel wants to play hockey and Jacob wants to start ballet, it doesn't make them any different from anyone else. We chose who we want to be and what we want to do.

There are gender roles and bias for a reason, but those reasons are old fashioned and confusing at the very least. Biologically speaking, we are the sum of our parts, but that does not mean our parts should determine how we live our lives. If a healthy adult decides to forgo children, we shouldn't shun them, simply because they're not fulfilling their biological imperatives. We are not animals and we are not breeding cows. You do not have to have a baby to define your role in life.

In the end, all that matters is being comfortable in your own skin and ignoring what the others think. It is bad enough that people assume we should all have the same kinks and turn-ons, it's even worse they expect or even try to force us to fulfill these roles. Sex is a freedom, and sex is a responsibility, but it's also a choice. It's a choice to say no, it's a choice to change your mind. There are consequences to every action, for good or ill, but it is not up to the public at large to decide what these consequences should be, it is a private matter between you and your body. Anyone in violation of this; should face the consequences of their actions, because they had no right to you or your body.

We are all under the same biological assumptions, but that does not mean that anyone should enforce these assumptions upon anyone else. It is not our right.

If you are straight, gay, asexual, or otherwise occupied, that should make no difference to anyone. If you are uncomfortable in your own skin and you want to be someone else, that makes no difference either. You are who you want to be. If you were born in a family of paramedics and the sight of blood makes you queasy, you don't have to take that job. Then why if you are born male or female, or anything at all, should you be forced to live that way? You shouldn't. Plain and simple.

We are not the sum of our parts, and we are not to be judged on the biological assumptions we were born with. We are individuals with hearts, and minds, and our own set of ever changing, ever evolving beliefs. We should act like it.
