Dear Robin Williams:

My name is Elizabeth, and while you do not know me, I have been a fan of yours since I was very little.

You see, my mother used to let me stay up and watch “Nick at Night” and they had a show called “Mork and Mindy”. I loved this show so much, that I used to refuse to go to bed until I could watch it. I've heard rumors off and on that it was one of your most disliked roles, but I, for one, never got tired of it. When I discovered they were taking it off the air, I got very upset.

Throughout the years, I became a fan of your many roles, and you became one of the few actors that I tried to never miss. Toys was a lot of fun, and taught me how important it was to value what you had. Good Will Hunting taught me that, against what my family would have me believe, being smart was not only acceptable, but something to go for. Aladdin was always a treat, and made me watch the TV show, just so I could watch that big blue genie. Jumanji and Hook made me realize that my deepest fantasies were worth having. What Dreams May Come still remains one of my top favorites, and I try to watch it when I can.

There are many roles you played, and many movies I watched, only to see one of my favorites on the stage. As a little girl who was told that being funny was wrong, being smart was bad, and having an imagination was worthless, you slowly ate through these bad words and made them small.

While I cannot truthfully say that I am a devout fan, and that I have seen everything you've done, I certainly tried. I may have picked and chose things according to my tastes, but whenever you were mentioned, I gave it a go.

You're a very funny man, and I often envy what you can accomplish. Patch Adams was such an amazing movie and so touching, that I went and looked up the organization afterward.  I was very sad to find that, with what the movie made, none seemed to have gone to helping it out. It was a sore point, and I'm sorry that it did or did not happen, however it is looked at.

I bet you're a really fun guy to hang out with. But you're probably too busy for me. Even still, I just want to say, Thank you.  Thank you for all that you've been for me. I would hug you if I could.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Ryan, a great fan.

I decided to share this.

I know he died recently, but he was one of the people I had been writing a letter. Unfortunately, I can no longer send this. I don't want to bother his poor grieving family, so I won't be sending it to them.

I wasn't sure what else to do. Instead, I just want to share it, as my tribute to his loss.

May he be happier, where ever he is.
